‘Business Bash’

Students in middle school are experiencing severe depression; owing to the sudden transition to online classes. Primary cognitive development takes place from ages 6–12 years, where a child learn concrete ways to think and reason. In middle school (ages 09–12 years average), the generation going through Covid has had the most difficulties in accepting the change. As this transition happened in a period when they weren’t set in their ways to comprehend their surroundings and make the analysis that a change of this magnitude can happen at any time. I have seen such cases in my own home, my sister, her school fellows and my friends who have siblings in this age group.

These children need out help in accepting the change. There are two ways to achieve that goal:

  1. Get things back to normal (pre-covid normal)
  2. Provide each of them with counselling
  3. Give them a healthy distraction, while they process the transition in a healthy manner and don’t feel it like a burden

We don’t see the first way being a possibility anytime soon, the second way is.. elusive, Pakistan is behind in so many levels, and none of is an expert for us to even initiate this project. That leaves us with giving them a healthy distractions, and for that the best way to approach is through schools. We have a system, we can reach out to the administration in our local schools and ask them to add a ‘Business Bash’ for students of classes 6–8.

I am inspired by the TedxLangleyED, which in is in the course ‘Entrepreneurship’. Such activities are very few in Pakistani schools, espacially of public sector. With the right mindset and reaching out to right people, I believe we can set up this extra-curricular activity that will hold intra-school ‘Business Bash’. Which will be announced at the start of an academic year, so children could work on their projects year long, while getting assistance from staff members, and presenting them after the final exams.

The participation in this would be mandatory for every student, and no idea is a bad idea, if not a working project, just a theoretical model will be accepted as well. This will make students have something other than studies to focus on, search for ideas and stop fraternizing about the momentous transition they are going through. Even after Covid has passed, and it will soon, IA, this is a great activity to have in a school, which will ensure students to develop social skills and an entrepreneurial mindset.
