Amal Fellowship

I can not believe that this journey is coming to an end. It seems not so long ago that I was figuring out my short term goals to make them into S.M.A.R.T goals and working on them, and actually being proactive, which was a first for me.

Looking back at my journey, especially the first two weeks, what stands out to me is how skeptical I was about continuing with this fellowship, as a friend of mine had asked me to do it together. Sadly, we were put in different batch and the dream of us being on this journey together shattered. He dropped out of the fellowship, because he could not keep up with the project work in a timely manner. I wish we were together so he could see this to the end.

I was sure that I am going to continue with this fellowship was when I realized how beneficial it is proving to be in combating my mental issues. It provided me with much needed time consuming activities, kept me busy and the intrusive thoughts away. I do not have a picture that will encompass how I felt, but the act of gratitude that was asked of us to do as a ‘going an extra mile’ activity, is what stayed with me. In which I sent a letter to my friend all the way to Karachi. The picture of it is attached herewith.

On this journey, I am glad to say that I have found new friends, people who are good and caring. We were strangers, and now we are familiar with the quirky behaviors of each other, which is such a sweet thing if you think about it. This fellowship has given me new skills, taught me how to be a better person both in personal space and in a professional environment. All while staying positive, having an optimistic growth mindset and working as a team. It has taught me more than I had ever thought it could. From the first few weeks, the facilitators have been so kind and understanding that they almost became the reason I did not get consumed with the melancholy of being in a different batch than my friend.

I am glad I embarked on this journey, I wish everyone who took it alongside me, the very best of luck and also to the new fellows in the upcoming batches.
